Charter - Maplewood Memorial Lawn

Meet the Staff

Karen Cope
Growing up in a large family, the sixth out of seven children, Karen Cope, Charter Funerals' manager in Emporia, knew she had the people skills needed to succeed. She graduated from Emporia State University with a degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and until 1998, her work experience was in the Corrections Department as a Probation Officer.

A career switch in 1998 first brought her to Maplewood Memorial Lawn as a Family Service Counselor. Recognizing her managerial skills, she was quickly promoted on to her first management position in the death care industry at Westlawn Memorial Park in Grand Island, Nebraska. In 2000 as Charter Funerals acquired Maplewood Memorial Lawn, Karen returned to Emporia as Cemetery Manager.

Karen's high energy and intensity has helped restore Maplewood Memorial Lawn to its original beauty and stature as a true landmark in the Emporia community. In 2001, Karen took on the added responsibilities as Manager of Charter Funerals Emporia Chapel.

She is a vital member of the community, as well. She has been a volunteer with the area Girl Scouts Council, the Sacred Heart Youth Group, and a member of the Emporia Jaycees since 1997. She is also a 2001 Leadership Emporia Graduate and was recently featured in the Emporia Gazette's Women in Business Edition. Karen and her husband Jeff have three daughters.
