Patrick Michael “Mike” Lipe, 62, of Independence, Missouri, passed away at home, November 23, 2012, surrounded by family and friends after a fierce battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Mr. Lipe was born May 17, 1950 to George T. Lipe and Patricia (Swain) Lipe in Kansas City, Missouri. He spent his youth in Kansas City and attended Catholic school, then graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1968. He served four years in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Vicki Lee Majors in 1974 and to this union three children were born. He worked for Yellow Freight, retiring in October 2010, due to his declining health. Mike enjoyed his garden, his days as an Eagle Scout, NASCAR and watching kids and grandkids play sports.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father and stepfather Thomas VanLuvan. He is survived by his former wife Vicki, daughter Jessica Nichols of Raymore, Missouri, son Jake Lipe, of Kansas City, Missouri and daughter Jennifer Horton (Robert) of Kansas City, Missouri, his three amazing grandchildren Seth Lipe, Samuel and Emma Horton, sisters Kathy Brown and Linda Rooks, several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and constant canine companion, Sam Sausage. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Community Hospice or the University of Kansas Medical Center Pulmonary Institute.

    Your father was such a fun and caring person. Always was welcome to have a cold one with him. I will always hold him in my heart. He was so grateful for his daughters that took good care of him.
