Carolyn (Johnson) Dillon McDonald, 79, Overland Park, KS, passed peacefully at the Kansas City Hospice House with family at her bedside on September 6, 2017.

Carolyn was born August 31, 1938, the oldest of seven children, to the late Arnold and Martha Johnson in Kansas City, MO. While at Lillis High School, Carolyn met her first love, Michael Dillon. The couple married on June 6, 1959 and together had three children ― Christy, Michael Jr., and Sandy. Sadly, their happy years together were cut short by Mike’s untimely death at a young age, on December 14, 1968. Carolyn then married her second love, Jack McDonald in 1972. After many happy years together, Carolyn was again widowed, in 1995.

In 1969, Carolyn started work at Curé of Ars Catholic School as the principal’s secretary, where she retired after 38 years. There she touched many lives with love and caring, and made many long-lasting friends and special memories.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Martha Johnson, husbands Michael J. Dillon, Sr. and Jack F. McDonald, and son, Michael J. Dillon, Jr. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Christine and Tom Bradley, and Sandra and Kyle Jester, as well as grandchildren Christopher Bradley, Jonathan Dillon, Kelly Dillon Clifford (Ian), and Holly Jester. She is also survived by her siblings, Marcia Tyhurst, Patty Smith, Arnold Johnson, Jr., Susan Berry, David Johnson and Kathy Christianson, their families and her cousin Charlotte Luna and family, as well as many caring friends.

Carolyn’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Atriums, where she last resided, as well as the many wonderful caregivers and staff at Shawnee Mission Medical Center and Kansas City Hospice.

A celebration of life service will be held at the Wesley Chapel, Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, Kansas on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.

I will always remember Carol, not only as an efficient, hard-working secretary who ran this school, but also as a kind, considerate human being. Besides these great business skills, Carol was a great friend with a heart of giving and respect for others. She was loyal to all of the teachers, and helped us in any way possible, whether it was filling out insurance papers or helping to arrange for substitutes. Her love for the school children was boundless. Almost every family has a favorite story of some kindness she extended to their children. I, too, have favorite memories of sweet moments she bestowed on my own children. The tough exterior easily gave way to everyone's needs and situations. With that in mind, everyone knew that Carol could be trusted to never divulge private issues, never give unwanted advice, but always have a listening ear when necessary with tenderness.
She will sorely be missed. She was a great lady. Rest in God's loving arms, Carol. Josephine Nigro

My fondest memories of Aunt Carol... are used to get bad migraines and go to the office and she
would always take care of me put a cold rag on my head I loved her so much. She always had a
smiley face when she came to visit and I was always very excited to see her, also Michael Cristy and
Sandy too! When I was at grandmas house I always say I don't her lap because she was so caring
