Cheri Jean Smith of Emporia, entered into her new home in glory while surrounded by her loved ones Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Newman Regional Health. She was 62.

Cheri was born Monday, November 29, 1954 in Valentine, Nebraska to Leonard and Pearle (Fischer) Bechtold. She served honorably in the US Army in Secretarial Sciences and as a G2 in Intelligence.

Cheri is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Pearle Bechtold. She is survived by her husband, Richard "Rick" Smith of the home; son, Mike (Karla) Smith of Pinedale, WY; daughters, Faith Anne (Wade) White of Emporia, KS, and Chrisy (Jonathan) Lewis of Emporia, KS; step daughter, Stayce (Eric) Mayfield of St. Louis, MO; 8 grandchildren; 1 step grandchild; sister, Leota Strong of Ainsworth, NE; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Cheri bequeathed her body to Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences Division of Clinical Anatomy for cell research. A memorial service will be officiated by Pastor Al Areheart of Twelfth Ave Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2017 at Countryside Baptist Church, 6 1st Street in Americus. Interment will take place at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine, Nebraska. Memorial contributions may be made to the Countryside Baptist Church Mission Programs.

    Cheri was a classmate at Valentine High School. So sorry to hear of her passing. Thoughts of her
    family knowing how much she loved her children and grand children!
