Obituary

Carol Louise Rice passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years old on Monday, September 10, 2018 at the NorthCare Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 29, 1938 in Beverly, Massachusetts, the daughter of Joseph and Wilma Darling and was a longtime resident of Gladstone, Missouri.

She was passionate about reading, spending time with loved ones, and collecting stuffed animals to the delight of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Carol identified as shy, but she never met a stranger. She could start and carry on a conversation with anyone willing to listen. She enjoyed “making her rounds” by visiting her friends at Walmart, Sears, Kmart, and the Dollar Tree.

A Tall Vanilla Latte shared with family and good conversation was the highlight of her week, around which all other activities would be scheduled.

The family could always count on “Weather Granny” to remind them to grab an umbrella or to drive safely and to update them on the national weather.

She is survived by two daughters: Cindy Stephens (Steve Dudley) of Independence, MO and Brenda Lewis of Kansas City, MO; two sons: Dean Heldman (Maria) of Frisco, TX and Kevin Heldman (Robin) of Holly Hill, FL; ten grandchildren: Amy Wulfekuhl, Colin Stephens (Megan), Abby Hall (Remy), Alex Stephens, Joe Lewis (Heather), Seth Heldman, Aaron Heldman, Josh Roan (Bri), Amber Roan, and Logan Becken; and nine great-grandchildren: Ezra, Eden, Memphis, Jorja, Ada, Joney, Waylynn, Millie, and Shayne. She is also survived by two brothers: William (Rusty) Darling and Joseph Darling Jr.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Holly Roan and her sister, Barbara Ann Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Children’s Miracle Network or Ronald McDonald House in her memory.

I just saw the notice at Walmart. Carol was such a wonderful person. I so enjoyed talking with her about our children and grandchildren when we had break times. What a loving person. Carol look up my mother in Heaven and share all your stories with her. You will have a new friend. My prayers goes out to Carol's family during this sad time. God's best to all of you .

Our hearts are a little bit sadder knowing that "Grandma, Grandma AHH" is not with us. We have
spent every evening this week telling stories about her. A sweet soul that will truly be missed.
Much love to all the Heldman's as we process this sad news.

    Maria Heldman, Frisco, TX
