Obituary

Kurtis James Mitchell of Emporia met his Savior and his mom on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at his home while surrounded by his wife and his children. He was 52.

Kurtis was born August 21, 1966 in Sedan, Kansas to Nolan K. and Katherine O. (VanBuskirk) Mitchell. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1989 with a Master of Science in Chemistry. He married Julie Christine Norris on February 1, 1992 and four children were born to this union. He was a wonderful husband and father. His family meant everything to him. Kurtis worked at Wolf Creek as a Chemist for 28 years.

Kurtis is preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Julie Mitchell of the home; children, Heather Mitchell, Ashley Mitchell, Amber Mitchell, and Nicholas Mitchell each of Emporia; father, Nolan Mitchell of Howard, Kansas; sister, Kathy (Kent) Allison of Coffeyville, Kansas; brothers, Ken (Mary) Mitchell of Howard, Kansas and Kevin (Melinda) Mitchell of Howard, Kansas.

A funeral service will be officiated by Reverend Joe Tuttle at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 8, 2019 at Bethel Baptist Church in Emporia. Burial will follow at Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church.

    Hi, Mom julie I wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you on this difficult time in your life. Dad
    curtis was a great person and very loving and caring and even through it has been a while since we
    havent seen each other you all are always in my heart . I am so sorry for your loss but, even through
    its hard to loose someone we know that he will be in a better place with God and he is not longer
    suffering. He will be looking after you and the kids always. Love you mom and try to be strong and I

    Kurtis was an inspiration to us all. He always worked hard and
    never complained about anything, not even when he wasn't
    feeling well. He will be missed and remembered for what a
