Obituary

Veronica Padilla of Lawrence KS, 59, has left us behind on January 9, 2020. She was born December 12, 1960 to Perfecto and Mary Ann (Ramirez) Padilla in Albuquerque, NM.

Veronica was raised in Albuquerque’s south valley. She was married to Jim Wharton from 1980 to 1996 and raised a family in Los Lunas, NM. She has lived in California, New Mexico and finally Kansas. She made many friends everywhere she lived and was loved by all who knew her. She worked for the Public Schools and small businesses in the communities she resided.

Veronica found happiness in everything and knew how to enjoy the little things in life. She loved to crochet and gift her work to family and friends just to see them smile. She loved music and keeping things simple. What she most loved in life was her family and spent as much time as possible with them. She took pride in her Grandchildren and loved them with all her heart. Veronica had a very big heart and took every opportunity to reveal it to whomever she encountered.

Veronica is survived by her son, Jimmy Lee (Amy) Wharton, granddaughter Jaden and grandson Joseph of Baldwin City, KS; her daughter, Megan Wharton and granddaughter Arianna of Lawrence, KS; her sister Anita Napoleon and brothers Richard and Mike Padilla of Los Lunas NM. Her many nieces, nephews, and their families. Veronica was preceded in death by her father, Tito Padilla; mother, Mary Ann Ramirez; brother Ricky Padilla; sisters Flora Valenzuela and Emily Santistevan.

She will be cremated per her wishes. A small service will be held at Our Lady of Belen in Belen, NM where she will have her final resting place, the date is to be determined. Family and friends will be notified when details are finalized.

Remembrances

Of all my in-laws, Ronnie was always my favorite! We shared good times and bad times, but always remained
close friends. We were each other's best support
during our early years of marriage. We always
laughed about the plans we had for being crazy old
ladies and the trouble we would get into. I know she
was homesick so I'd send her funny cat videos and
jokes on FB just hoping to make her laugh and smile.
    She will be so missed!!!!!

I was so shocked and sad when I heard what happened. She was such a sweet & happy person to
talk to and be around, she touched a lot of us and that’s something I’ll never forget.
